| Black Aces Shimmy Past Stars, 2-1 | Houston turned a good effort from starter Arlie Pond into a win over the Philadelphia Stars at Aces Pavillion. The final score was 2-1. Reliever Kevin McGlinchy picked up the win. His record improves to 2-0. Skip Pitlock took the loss. The Black Aces, now 76-47, have won 8 in a row.
Kirby Puckett, who finished 2nd in the PBL in triples with 10 last year, won the game with a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 11th. In the contest, the Houston center fielder was 1 for 4.
During his postgame press conference, Black Aces manager Jimi Patricola told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
