The 27-year-old was a dominant performer all year for Houston and his efforts have been rewarded with the Phoenix Baseball League Tums Reliever of the Year Award for 1999. The bullpen ace had an impressive 1.05 ERA this season, with 5 saves in 41 relief appearances. He fanned 57 batters in 51.1 innings and sported a record of 7 wins and 3 losses.
