Pujols Is PBL's Rookie of the Year

The outstanding Phoenix Baseball League newcomer for 1999 has been selected and the trophy goes to Texas left fielder Albert Pujols. He received the Topps Rookie of the Year Award on the strength of his fine performance this season.

It was a season to remember for the 22-year-old Rangers rookie. He wrapped up his first year with a .313 batting average, 50 doubles, 2 triples and 25 home runs. Pujols also had 104 RBIs and scored 105 times.

He received 10 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Dick Allen of the Tampon Bay Pussies finished second in voting, while Pete Alexander of the Philadelphia Stars finished third.
