| Sky Chiefs Get One to Win | There was no spell, no black magic -- just good pitching.
Curt Young of the Des Moines Sky Chiefs blanked the Charleston Riverdogs, 1-0, at Judges Ballpark today, and he did it the old-fashioned way. After finishing the 6-hit, complete-game shutout, he was all smiles.
"I threw a lot of my pitches for strikes in this game," Young said. "I mixed it up and tried keeping these guys off balance."
Young walked 0 and struck out 7 in the victory.
"He was throwing his breaking ball for strikes and we never capitalized on any of his mistakes," Riverdogs manager Tom Paciorek said later.
Young has taken the mound for 5 relief appearances this season, nailing down 1 save while notching a 3-0 record with a 2.01 ERA. The Des Moines reliever has limited opposing batters to a .249 batting average. | |
