| Blue Claws Win to Extend Series Lead to 3-1 | The Virginia Beach Blue Claws moved to within one game of the Round 2 today, downing the Richmond Ghostriders on the road at Richmond Fields by a score of 4-2. Blue Claws right-hander Jim Lonborg was named player of the game after a strong outing in which he threw 5 innings of 3-hit ball. The win gives the Blue Claws a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-5 Round 1.
One of the biggest contributors for Virginia Beach was right fielder Lou Piniella. In the top of the eighth, with a runner on 1st, Piniella got a 2-2 curveball and hit a run-scoring double. That put the Blue Claws on top, 4-2.
"We don't have much margin for error now," Ghostriders manager Earl Weaver said. "We need to figure out the problem and fix it, immediately."
