| Wildcard Game 1 Victory for Eckersley and San Diego | The San Diego Padres got a strong 8 innings from right-hander Dennis Eckersley today to take Game 1 of the Wildcard from the Houston Black Aces. Eckersley held the Black Aces to 1 earned run on 8 strong innings. The Padres took the game by a score of 2-1 and now lead the best-of-7 series, 1-0.
Eckersley was effective against the Black Aces, seldom allowing a hard-hit ball. The right-hander limited Houston to just 1 run on 4 hits over 8 innings.
"We found a way to get it done," Eckersley said.
The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at Jack Murphy Stadium. Slated to start are Mario Soto for the Houston Black Aces and Ed Whitson for the the San Diego Padres.
