San Diego Wins to Narrow Series Deficit to 3-2
The San Diego Padres defeated the Houston Black Aces, 8-1 in Game 5 of the Wildcard today. Earning player of the game honors was starter Dennis Eckersley, who threw 8 innings of 5-hit ball. The win narrows San Diego's deficit in the series to 3-2.

It could have been a different outcome for San Diego, had it not been for Gary Roenicke, the 26-year old left fielder . Roenicke contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put San Diego up, 2-0.

"Our guys are never satisfied," said San Diego manager Jimmy O'Rourke.

Game 6 is set to be played tomorrow in Houston. The scheduled starters for the game are Ed Whitson for the San Diego Padres and John Candelaria for the the Houston Black Aces.
