 | St. Louis Skunks Arizona, 7-0 Friday, September 16th, 1977 It wasn't easy but Kelly Downs made it look that way. Downs silenced the Arizona Diamondbacks, 7-0, in a St. Louis Cardinals triumph at Busch Stadium today. Despite the appearance of dominance, Downs said later that he felt like he was struggling all game. He gave up 1 walk and 4 hits. "It didn't feel quite right today, but I made the decision to bear down and work through it," he said. "I made a few mistakes but it goes to show what you can do with grit and not much else."
