| No-Hit Masterpiece by Halama Tuesday, August 3rd, 1999 It was a fantastic day for Rancho Cucamonga Headhunters starter John Halama and a lousy day for the Sherwood Owls.
The Rancho Cucamonga hurler's pitching artistry completely befuddled and bewildered the Owls, as the Headhunters cruised to a 3-0 win. When it was all over, Halama was credited with one of the rarer feats in baseball -- a no-hitter.
"The ball was moving and darting, and best of all, going where I wanted it to go," Halama said later.
He rang up 11 strikeouts and allowed 1 walk while shutting Sherwood down at Battle Kings Ballpark.
Halama has taken the mound for no relief appearances this season, nailing down no saves while notching a 3-2 record with a 2.57 ERA. The Rancho Cucamonga reliever has limited opposing batters to a .184 batting average.
