The San Diego Padres topped the Boston Pilgrims by the score of 7-5, with the largest share of the credit going to pinch hitter Johnny Mokan. Mokan was 1 for 1 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for the Padres. John Halama got credit for the win, improving to 3-1. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. Bob Locker earned the save for San Diego, his 6th.

Mokan had a timely hit for San Diego in the top of the seventh. With Boston trailing 4-2, he turned a 3-1 fastball into a grand slam home run. It was his 2nd home run of the season, making it 6-4, San Diego.
