| Trout Handcuffs Typhoon, Blue Claws Seize 2-0 Advantage in R2 | With starter Steve Trout leading the charge, the Virginia Beach Blue Claws defeated the Franklinton Typhoon, 4-3, in Game 2 of the Round 2 today. The left-hander threw 8 innings allowing 3 runs at Players Ballpark to help Virginia Beach take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.
Lou Piniella helped out the Virginia Beach cause in the bottom of the eighth inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the right fielder was 2 for 4 with 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Franklinton skipper Don Zimmer, "and it cost us."
The next game is set to be played Monday. Slated to start are Allen Ripley for Virginia Beach and Jeff C D'Amico for Franklinton.
