| Franklinton Breaks Through for First Win in Round 2; Now Trails 3-1 | The Franklinton Typhoon have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Virginia Beach Blue Claws, winning 5-4 at Ballpark of Franklinton today. Typhoon right-hander Jeff C D'Amico was named player of the game after he threw 7 innings allowing 1 run. The win cuts the deficit facing the Typhoon to 3-1 in the best-of-7 Round 2.
The Franklinton win was a team effort. It included major contributions from, among others, Bob Dernier. In the bottom of the eighth, the Franklinton center fielder came to bat and hit a run-scoring single. It staked his team to a 5-4 lead.
"This team is real focused right now," said Franklinton manager Don Zimmer.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow. Slated to start are Ed Lynch for the Virginia Beach Blue Claws and Tommy John for the the Franklinton Typhoon.
