| Reuss Handcuffs Black Aces, Cubs Seize 2-0 Advantage in R2 | The Seattle Cubs got a strong game from starter Jerry Reuss, but it was some clutch hitting that ultimately delivered the win.
The Cubs took the 2-1 win over the Houston Black Aces in Game 2 of the Divisional in a 10th inning walk-off today. The win capped off a fine outing for the left-handed Reuss, who was named player of the game. Reuss threw 8 innings of 3-hit ball in the win, which gave the Cubs a 2-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Al Oliver came to bat in the bottom of the tenth. Facing Houston pitcher Steve Howe, he hit a 2-1 slider for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Seattle on top, 2-1.
"Our team showed some gumption," said Oliver. "I like it."
Game 3 is scheduled for Sunday, October 18th, 1981 at Astrodome in Houston. Slated to start are Scott McGregor for the Seattle Cubs and Fernando Valenzuela for the the Houston Black Aces.
