Yankees Need Extra Innings to Top Padres, 7-6 | The New York Yankees beat the San Diego Padres, 7-6, at Jack Murphy Stadium. New York catcher Andy Seminick had an outstanding performance. He was 1 for 2 with a home run, 2 walks, and was hit by a pitch, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Jack Hallett, now 1-0, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 2 and walking 1. The Yankees, now 21-18, know that wins in May count the same as wins in September.
In the top of the tenth, Wally Berger hit a solo home run to left-center. It was his 7th home run of the season. With one swing, New York had the lead, 7-6. For the game, Berger went 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said New York manager Chris Patricola. | | | | |
