| Padres Clonk Yankees, 6-4 | The San Diego Padres defeated the New York Yankees, 6-4, in Phoenix Baseball League action at Jack Murphy Stadium. San Diego pitcher Herb Score had a standout performance. Score got the win, improving to 1-3. He allowed 6 hits and walked 1 over 5 innings. Score allowed 2 runs. Bob Locker was called on to finish, recording his 9th save.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Padres had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the second, when designated hitter Rickie Weeks hit a 2-run single. The single came off Johnny Cueto and made the score 3-0, Padres. Weeks was 2-4 with 2 singles and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Weeks. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
The 6th-place Padres go to 19-22.
