Padres Top Seattle, 1-0 | The San Diego Padres did just enough to sneak past the Seattle Cubs, 1-0, at Jack Murphy Stadium. San Diego pitcher Dixie Leverett, in particular, had a standout performance. With the win, San Diego pushed its record to 27-27.
A crucial at-bat came with the bases empty and no one out in the bottom of the eighth inning. That's when shortstop Luis Aparicio, who led the PBL in stolen bases with 61 in 1997, hit a triple. The Padres went on to win.
"For the most part, I made good pitches when I needed to," said Leverett. | | | | |
