| Yankees Foil Padres, 7-5 | New York Yankees starter Johnny Cueto pitched effectively against the San Diego Padres at Yankee Stadium I. The right-hander spearheaded his team's 7-5 win. Doug Jones recorded the save, his 3rd. The Yankees, now 3-0, have played some good baseball in the early going.
Bobby Veach chipped in for New York, stroking a crucial 2-run triple in the bottom of the seventh inning. For the game, the left fielder was 2 for 4 with a triple. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.
"Enjoyed this one," Veach told the New York Citizen. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
