Rangers Held in Check by Yankees, Lose, 2-1 | The New York Yankees did just enough to sneak past the Texas Rangers, 2-1, at Yankee Stadium I. New York pitcher Early Wynn, in particular, had a standout performance. With the victory, the Yankees upped their record to 53-43.
Felix Mantilla had a productive at-bat for the Yankees with two out in the bottom of the seventh. With the bases empty, the second baseman hit a solo home run. The at-bat was important in the New York win.
"This was a game where every at-bat, every pitch counted," said Wynn. | | | | |
