| Padres Slap 9-4 Loss on Pilgrims | Spirited fans greeted the Boston Pilgrims for their clash with the San Diego Padres.
San Diego first baseman George C Scott played a vital role in his team's 9-4 triumph over Boston. He went 2 for 5 with 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice for San Diego. San Diego reliever Phil Leftwich was credited with the win, to go to 1-3. Al Orth took the loss for Boston.
Scott put San Diego up, 9-0, when he hit a 3-run home run off Erv Palica in the top of the seventh. His 14th home run of the season helped the Padres capture the win.
"Good win for our guys," said Scott.
The win has San Diego at 39-57.
