David Murphy of the Virginia Beach Blue Claws had a fine season this year and today he accepted the Most Valuable Player Award for 1999.

The 28-year-old left fielder put up a .298 average and a .347 on-base percentage, piling up 138 hits, 19 doubles, 3 triples, 21 home runs, 68 RBIs and 72 runs scored.

He received 9 first place votes out of a possible 10. Jerry Lynch of the Vancouver Manatees finished second in voting with 1 first place vote, while Casper Wells of the Richmond Ghostriders finished third.
