Black Aces Hammered by Mays, Drop Game 5 to Ambassadors | The Pittsburgh Ambassadors have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Houston Black Aces, winning 9-3 at Allegheny Park today. Ambassadors center fielder Willie Mays was 4 for 4 with a home run, a triple, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. The win cuts the deficit facing the Ambassadors to 3-2 in the best-of-7 Eliminator Round.
Mays came through for Pittsburgh with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the third. He hit a first pitch changeup to left field, staking his team to a 3-1 lead.
"It feels good to get this one," Mays told the Pittsburgh News.
The next game is scheduled for Wednesday. The scheduled starters for the game are Juan Marichal for Pittsburgh and Lefty Grove for Houston. | | | | |
