| Home Loss Shrinks Chiwawas' Series Lead to 2-1 | The San Diego Padres have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Montreal Chiwawas, winning 4-2 at Stade Olympique today. Padres left-hander Fernando Valenzuela threw 7 innings allowing 2 runs. The win cuts the deficit facing the Padres to 2-1 in the best-of-7 Round 3.
The Padres benefited from a costly error in the top of the first. With Pat Sheridan at bat and San Diego leading 1-0, the Montreal miscue allowed San Diego to plate 1 and take the lead, 2-0.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Sheridan told the San Diego Bulletin.
Game 4 is set to be played tomorrow at Stade Olympique. The scheduled starters for the game are Jack McDowell for the San Diego Padres and Bruce Hurst for the the Montreal Chiwawas.
