| Cubs Slap 2-1 Loss on Yankees | The Seattle Cubs defeated the New York Yankees, 2-1, in Phoenix Baseball League action at Yankee Stadium I. Seattle pitcher Adam Wainwright had a standout performance. Wainwright went 5 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 7. His record improves to 2-4. Tim Crabtree recorded the save for Seattle, his 5th of the season.
Fred Carisch contributed a productive at-bat in the top of the second. With the bases loaded, he reached on an error by the 3B, driving in 1 run. It was one at-bat that helped Seattle get the win.
"Not everyone likes pitching duels," said Carisch. "But I do."
The Cubs, now 20-28, know that wins in May count the same as wins in September.
