Padres Score Late, Top Cubs, 3-2 | San Diego overcame a superior effort from Mike O'Neill to beat Seattle, 3-2. The Seattle pitcher threw 7 innings of shutout ball. The winner was Jonathan Loaisiga in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Ed Brandt took the loss. The 'W' lifts San Diego's record to 37-53.
San Diego used the clutch hitting of Lonny Frey to capture the win. The designated hitter drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Padres ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"Both teams played hard," said San Diego manager Jimmy O'Rourke. | | | | |
