Pittsburgh Beats New York in Extra Innings
The Pittsburgh Ambassadors and New York Yankees put on quite a show.

Wally Berger did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the New York Yankees from losing, 6-5, to the Pittsburgh Ambassadors at Yankee Stadium I. Berger went 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. The win belongs to Lynn Brenton in relief. His record improves to 4-3. Bob Locker took the loss for New York.

The most important at-bat for Pittsburgh came in the top of the tenth inning, when shortstop Woodie Held stroked a 2-1 fastball to center for a run-scoring single, putting Pittsburgh up, 6-5.

"I was hoping to make good contact," said Held. "I wasn't trying to knock the snot out of it."

The 7th-place Ambassadors have a record of 45-59.
