Rangers Rally to Tally 3-1 Win | The Texas Rangers took Seattle pitcher Mike O'Neill's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Wrigley Field. The final score had Texas getting past the Cubs, 3-1. O'Neill went 6 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 4. Gene Bearden snagged the win in relief. In 3.1 innings, the left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit. He's now 7-6 on the season. Earning the save was Roy Witherup. He's now cashed in 21 of 21 save opportunities.
Clyde Barnhart, who finished 2nd in the PBL in slugging percentage with .550 in 1997, helped out the Texas cause in the top of the second inning with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. For the game, the right fielder drove in one run.
"Every loss hurts," said Seattle manager Gary Lent. "But this was a tough one."
