Pilgrims Lose to Yankees, 6-3 | The New York Yankees stopped the Boston Pilgrims, 6-3, behind an impressive performance from Wally Berger. The 29-year old center fielder made life miserable for Boston pitching. He was 2 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. New York pitcher Sean Manaea got the win. He's now 7-5. Lee Richmond was tagged with the loss. Bob Locker got the save, his 13th in 14 chances.
Berger had a key at-bat in the bottom of the third to put New York in front, 5-1. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, he hit a 3-run home run.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Berger told the New York Citizen.
The triumph puts New York at 67-60 for the season. | | | | |
