PBL Rookie of the Year Award Announced Tuesday, October 30th, 1990 It was a lot of headlines and highlights for Montreal second baseman Carlos Sanchez in his first season in the Phoenix Baseball League. It was announced today that the 21-year-old was voted the top newcomer and had earned the Rookie of the Year Award.
Carlos Sanchez collected 154 hits, 7 home runs, 69 RBIs, 40 walks and 68 runs scored. He hit .271 and had a .318 on-base percentage.
He received 6 first place votes out of a possible 10. Brook Jacoby of the Boston Pilgrims finished second in voting with 2 first place votes, while Bill Wise of the Houston Black Aces finished third with 1 first place vote.
