| Padres Drop Contest, 9-4, to Tampon Bay | Behind the bravura of right fielder Ellis Burks, the Tampon Bay Pussies topped the San Diego Padres by the score of 9-4. Burks was 2 for 4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3 for the Pussies. Paul Derringer got the win, improving to 2-1. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 4 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 2 and walking 3. The win boosted Tampon Bay to 22-12.
Tampon Bay used the bat of Hal Trosky Sr to get the win. The first baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Pussies ahead, 2-0. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"It feels good to get this one," Trosky Sr told the Tampon Bay Daily News.
