Lake Monsters Take Title | A celebratory mood filled the air as the Cleveland Lake Monsters closed out the season with a 5-2 victory over the Houston Black Aces at Aces Pavillion to capture the PBL World Series, 4-3.
Giving the Black Aces credit for a hard-fought series, Lake Monsters players said they believed throughout the postseason that their "destiny" was to be crowned Phoenix Baseball League champions.
"We felt like this was our year all season long," said right fielder Richie Zisk, who was named series MVP. "It was our destiny to win it and we did."
It was the 1st in franchise history. During the PBL regular season Cleveland put up a 83-75 record and finished 5th.
"They're the champions and they deserve it," said a dejected Houston manager Jimi Patricola. "We played good ball, they just played better than us." | | | | |
