Starting pitcher Scott Kazmir held up his part of the bargain, helping the Boston Pilgrims stymie the Seattle Cubs, 4-2. Kazmir went 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 0, and struck out 8. His record improves to 3-1. The win hiked the Boston record to 18-15.

There were several reasons the Pilgrims beat the Cubs, but one factor was Del Gainer. In the bottom of the second, the Boston first baseman came to bat and hit a 2-run home run. It staked his team to a 2-0 lead.

"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Boston manager Mike Wallace.
