| Rangers Clonk Lake Monsters, 5-4 | Texas Rangers starter Tommy Bond was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Cleveland Lake Monsters, 5-4. Texas reliever Gene Bearden picked up the win to move to 8-6. Adbert Alzolay suffered the loss. Roy Witherup got the save, his 22nd in 22 chances.
Late-game drama came in the bottom of the eighth inning. With two out and a runner on 2nd, the batter, Al Dark, hit a run-scoring single. It helped Texas seize the win.
Bond pitched well, despite being a bit under the weather. "To be honest, I was sick before the game," he said. "Just a stomach bug."
The Rangers now have a record of 51-61 with the win over Cleveland.
