| On Road, Philadelphia Beats San Diego, 7-5 | The Philadelphia Stars weathered a fine game by San Diego third baseman Harry Steinfeldt to upend the Padres, 7-5, at Jack Murphy Stadium. Steinfeldt went 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Bill Sayles finished the game for Philadelphia and earned his 4th save. The loss drops the San Diego record to a disappointing 5-7.
Jimmy Rollins, the top prospect , had a direct impact on the outcome. Rollins contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the fifth inning to put Philadelphia up, 1-0.
