| Yankees Handed 5-2 Loss by Cleveland | The Cleveland Lake Monsters downed the New York Yankees, 5-2. The hitting star was second baseman Jose Altuve. Altuve went 3 for 3 with 3 singles and a walk, while adding 2 RBI for the Lake Monsters. Christy Mathewson picked up the win, improving his season record to 9-14. He struck out 8 in 5 innings. The Lake Monsters raised their record to 61-98.
Altuve hit a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fifth to help the Cleveland cause. The single, which was hit off Ike Delock, allowed Cleveland to take a 3-2 lead.
"It was just a matter of executing," said Cleveland manager John Byedon.
