Boston Win Evens Series at 2 | In a crucial game, the Boston Pilgrims put on their best show, beating the New York Yankees by a final score of 2-1 today. Steve Carlton earned player of the game honors, as he threw 5 innings of 3-hit ball. Boston and New York are now tied at 2 wins apiece in the best-of-7 affair.
With runs few and far between, the Pilgrims had to seize their opportunities when they came. One of the most important chances for Boston came in the bottom of the tenth inning, when pinch hitter Reggie Smith delivered a run-scoring single. The single was hit off Bert Roberge and made the score 2-1, Pilgrims. Smith went 1-1.
"It's true for every sport, I think, but the playoffs are so short that you've just got to get in and get hot," Boston manager Mike Wallace told BNN after the win. "We took care of the first part and now we're just working on the second."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow in Boston. The scheduled starters for the game are Jon Matlack for New York and Scott Sanderson for Boston. | | | | |
