Boston Grabs 3-2 Lead in R1 | The Boston Pilgrims got a strong performance from pitcher Scott Sanderson, who stymied the visiting New York Yankees en route to a 6-1 win in Game 5 of the Wildcard today. The Yankees could never get a bead on the right-handed Sanderson, who threw 5 innings of 0-hit ball to earn player of the game honors. The Pilgrims now hold a 3-2 in the best-of-7 series.
Carlton Fisk contributed to the Boston win with a 3-run home run in the bottom of the third. For the game, the catcher had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 3 runs batted in.
"It all depends on which version of our team shows up," said Fisk. "When we put it all together, I think we're a great team."
Game 6 is scheduled for tomorrow. The scheduled starters for the game are Jack Morris for New York and Bob Knepper for Boston. | | | | |
