Raucous Fenway Park II Crowd Propels Pilgrims to 1-0 Victory; Series Tied at 2 | At 36, Steve Carlton knows he may not have many playoff appearances left, so he was determined to make it memorable. Mission accomplished.
The Boston Pilgrims starting pitcher threw 5 innings of shutout ball to help his club get past the Philadelphia Stars, 1-0, in Game 4 of the Divisional at Fenway Park II today. Carlton took player of the game honors for his performance. With the win, Boston moves into a 2-2 tie in the best-of-7 series.
Chet Lemon hit a run-scoring triple off Charlie Hough in the bottom of the fourth, which put the Pilgrims in front, 1-0. Lemon had 1 walk, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 1 for 2.
"Things broke our way today and that's great," Pilgrims manager Mike Wallace said. "It's important, though, to stay focused and not pat yourself on the back too much. We aren't done yet."
Game 5 is scheduled for tomorrow at Fenway Park II in Boston. The scheduled starters for the game are Marty Bystrom for the Philadelphia Stars and Scott Sanderson for the the Boston Pilgrims. | | | | |
