Behind a solid performance from pinch hitter Bobby Veach, the New York Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Stars, 5-4. Veach went 1 for 1 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Yankees. Doug Jones earned the save for New York, his 12th. With the win, New York raised its record to 23-22.

Momentum swung to the Yankees in the bottom of the seventh, when Veach, who finished 2nd in the PBL in runs with 108 in 1997, hit a 2-run home run. It propelled the Yankees into the lead, 4-3.

"I was a little disappointed," said Philadelphia manager Frank Borawski. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
