The San Diego Padres did just enough to sneak past the Tampon Bay Pussies, 5-4, at Pamprin Ballpark. San Diego right fielder Bill Nicholson, in particular, had a standout performance. Bob Locker converted his 12th save in 14 tries. Tampon Bay's current losing streak has reached 4 games.

Johnny Mokan, the former first round draft pick , had a direct impact on the outcome. Mokan contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put San Diego up, 4-3.
