| Victory Over Padres Takes Tampon Bay to 45-24 | Tampon Bay used a superb performance from starting pitcher Hal Newhouser to down the San Diego Padres, 4-1. Heathcliff Slocumb, credited with the save, is now 1 for 2 in save opportunities. The Pussies have an impressive 45-24 record.
In the bottom of the fifth, Tampon Bay third baseman Dick Allen had a productive at-bat. With runners on 1st and 3rd and two out, Allen stroked a run-scoring single to left-center. It made the score 3-1, Tampon Bay. For the game, he was 3 for 3 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs.
