| Rangers Pick Up 3-1 Road Win Over Philadelphia | The Texas Rangers downed the Philadelphia Stars, 3-1. The hitting star was left fielder Albert Pujols. Pujols went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Rangers. Roy Witherup converted his 17th save in 17 tries. The win lifted the Texas record to 36-33.
With Texas trailing 1-0 in the top of the fourth, Pujols came up to bat against Philadelphia pitcher Pete Alexander. Pujols hit a changeup to left for a 2-run home run. His 14th home run of the season put the Rangers on top, 2-1.
"If it's down the middle," said Pujols, "you might as well hit it."
