| Stars Come Up Short at San Diego, 4-3 | The San Diego Padres racked up a win at Jack Murphy Stadium, bumping off the Philadelphia Stars, 4-3. Jake Odorizzi, who started for San Diego, pitched effectively for his team. In 7.1 innings, Odorizzi surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 1. He allowed 3 runs. The save was Bob Locker's, his 1st.
Luis Aparicio drove in one run for San Diego. The 27-year old shortstop had a key at-bat in the bottom of the third. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Jordan M Zimmermann. It was his 5th RBI of the season.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Aparicio said.
Now 4-6, the Stars have not played well this season.
