| Flick Heroics Not Enough in 9-8 Loss to New York | The Philadelphia Stars got a superb performance from right fielder Elmer Flick. Still, it wasn't enough to beat New York. The Yankees won the game, 9-8. Flick was 3 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 3 times and driving in 4. Bob Locker recorded the save, making him 11 for 12. New York raised its record to 61-55 with the win.
The New York win was a team effort. It included major contributions from, among others, Andy Seminick. In the bottom of the first, the New York catcher came to bat and hit a grand slam. It staked his team to a 5-1 lead.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Seminick.
