Cubs Raise Rally Flag, Beat Philadelphia, 4-3 | Seattle and Philadelphia duked it out and the Cubs came out victorious.
The Philadelphia Stars got a sterling performance from pitcher Pete Alexander, but the Seattle Cubs still prevailed, 4-3. Alexander threw 6 innings of shutout ball. Seattle pitcher Dick Robertson got the win, upping his record to 2-0. Jim LaMarque got the loss. Earning his 1st save for Seattle was Kevin Olsen.
There were several reasons the Cubs beat the Stars, but one factor was Charlie Hollocher. In the top of the ninth, the Seattle shortstop came to bat and hit a bases-clearing double. It staked his team to a 4-1 lead.
After the game, Seattle manager Gary Lent applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
Seattle goes to 10-11. | | | | |
