| Lake Monsters Turn Back Cubs, 5-4 | Seattle shortstop Charlie Hollocher was sensational. He went 3 for 5 with 3 singles, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Cleveland beat the Cubs, 5-4. Cal Koonce earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2.1 innings. His record is now 3-0. Scott Williamson got the save, the 7th for him this season.
Darrin Fletcher dealt the Cubs a blow in the top of the first. Batting with the bases loaded and Cleveland leading 1-0, Fletcher hit a 1-1 changeup for a 2-run single.
"We need to string a few more wins like this one together," said Fletcher.
The Cubs fall to 13-16 and continue their lackluster start in 1999.
