Almost There: Pittsburgh On Cusp of R1 Triumph After 9-3 Win
The Pittsburgh Allegheneys moved to within one game of the Round 2 today, downing the Seattle Cubs on the road at Wrigley Field by a score of 9-3. Allegheneys left-hander Lefty Grove had a strong outing. He threw 9 innings allowing 3 runs. The win gives the Allegheneys a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-7 Play In.

Rickey Henderson's at-bat in the top of the fourth inning was a big one for Pittsburgh. Coming to bat with one out, the bases loaded and Pittsburgh leading 3-2, the center fielder hit a bases-clearing triple.

"We're happy," Henderson told reporters after the win. "When you're in the playoffs, you've got to treat every game like it could be your last."

The next game is scheduled for Saturday, October 14th, 1989 at Allegheny Park in Pittsburgh. The scheduled starters for the game are Mike Scott for Seattle and Kenta Maeda for Pittsburgh.
