| Rangers Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Pussies, 4-1 | The Texas Rangers picked up a win at Pamprin Ballpark, taking down the Tampon Bay Pussies, 4-1. Starting pitcher Bert Inks was a big reason why. The winner in relief was Gene Bearden. He is now 2-0. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 2 innings. Roy Witherup collected his 5th save.
Marvell Wynne hit a run-scoring triple off Dave Righetti in the top of the eighth, which put the Rangers in front, 1-0. Wynne had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 4.
"The key at this level is throwing strike one," said Inks. "Successful pitchers do it."
The win has Texas at 10-6.
