The Philadelphia Stars wasted an impressive 7-inning effort from starter Bill Walker, falling 2-1 to the Seattle Cubs at Connie Mack Stadium. The Cubs move to 40-51 with the win, while the Stars drop to 40-51.

Jackie Jensen took John H Fitzgerald deep with no one out in the top of the ninth. On a 2-2 fastball, Jensen drilled a solo home run to left. It was his 7th home run of the season and put Seattle on top, 2-1.

"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Seattle manager Gary Lent said.
