Philadelphia Loses, 9-7, Despite Rollins Performance | The Philadelphia Stars got a superb performance from shortstop Jimmy Rollins. Still, it wasn't enough to beat New York. The Yankees won the game, 9-7. Rollins was 2-4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice. Denny McLain was the winning pitcher. Over 5 innings, he allowed 1 run on 4 hits, with no walks and 3 strikeouts. With the win, the Yankees have a record of 60-55.
The Yankees got an important contribution from third baseman David Wright, who in the bottom of the second knocked a 1-2 fastball into right-center for a bases-clearing double. It was his 35th double of the season and put the Yankees ahead, 4-0.
"It's nice to come out on top today," said Wright. | | | | |
