Pussies 2, Lake Monsters 1 | Runs were at a premium in the Tampon Bay-Cleveland matchup.
Tampon Bay Pussies starter Hal Newhouser pitched his team past the Cleveland Lake Monsters, 2-1. Fred Johnson got the save, his 4th in 6 chances.
Von Hayes had a big solo home run for the Pussies in the bottom of the second inning. With Tampon Bay leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he got a fastball from Christy Mathewson and swatted a home run to right. It was his 20th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Pussies ahead, 2-0.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Hayes told the Tampon Bay Daily News.
With the win, the Pussies sit at 101-52. | | | | |
